Homer Summa

He used an Akron career while playing for the Goodyear Wingfoot baseball team in 1918 as a springboard to the major leagues. A teammate on the Goodyear squad, Luther "Dummy" Taylor, was instrumental in getting him a tryout with the St. Louis Cardinals. Summa, an outfielder, led the Texas League in batting (.362) in 1922 and then played seven season with the Cleveland Indians and two seasons with the Philadelphia Athletics, then world champions.
