In 24 years as a coach in the Akron Public School system, Marshall coached teams in 44 different seasons. As a head baseball coach at Firestone and East, his teams won more than 200 games, three sectional championships and one district title. He took over a struggling cross country program at Firestone and produced a dual-meet record of 43-3 in three seasons, winning two sectionals and one district title. Marshall was an assistant football coach when East won an unprecedented four consecutive city championships. In 1980, Marshall took over the Firestone program that had never had a winning season. The 1981 Firestone club was 7-3. In 1982, the Falcons finished 8-2-1 and reached the City Series title game. The next season, Firestone finished 8-3 and defeated North in the playoff championship game to share the City Series crown with Garfield.
